Michael B. Jordan May Become the Next Superman
This will be the first time Superman has been portrayed by an African American actor, but should he sign onto the project, this would not be Michael B. Jordan's first rodeo with race swapped superheroes. The actor also appeared as the typically white Human Torch in 20th Century Fox's 2015 Fantastic Four movie.
While this is a very exciting announcement for Michael B. Jordan fans and many fans of Superman who are looking for a unique take, this may also be a disappointment for many. While Henry Cavill's portrayal of Superman is not necessarily the most well loved, some fans may be sad that his time as the Man of Steel was so short-lived and has now come to an end.
Meanwhile, there is also the controversy behind J.J. Abrams' attachment to this project. While Abrams is a well-respected film maker, it is no secret that he has had his fair share of shortcomings in the past. Fans of the popular TV show produced by Abrams, Lost, were less than happy with how the show ended. More recently, Abrams has recieved controversy for his Star Wars finale, The Rise of Skywalker.
What many critics may not be aware of though is that Abrams actually did write a Superman script in the past. It was apparently rejected because it was absolutely terrible. Luckily, Abrams is not set to be a writer on this movie. Instead, that role will be filled by Ta-Nehisi Coates who is most known for his work as a national correspondent for "The Atlantic."
Whether you are excited for this movie or worried about the risks that it is taking, this take on Superman is sure to be something fresh and unique. Despite the disappointment from Cavill fans and outrage from J.J. haters, there is no real reason to think this movie will be bad yet.
